Batman star is held after assault claims
 |
| DARK NIGHT: Actor Christian Bale, 34, leaves Belgravia Police Station in London yesterday |
BATMAN star Christian Bale was arrested on Tuesday by detectives investigating claims he assaulted two family members.
The Hollywood star and former Bournemouth schoolboy was questioned at a central London police station and released on bail until September.
Bale, 34, is alleged to have lashed out at his mother and sister, who both live in Dorset, in his suite at Park Lane's Dorchester Hotel on Sunday.
His mother Jenny, 61, who lives in Southbourne, and his sister Sharon, who lives in Corfe Mullen, went to a Hampshire police station on Monday to make their allegations formally.
The complaint about the actor was then passed to the Metropolitan Police for further investigation.
A spokesman said: "A 34-year-old man attended a central London police station this morning by appointment.
"He was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault."
The Daily Echo visited the homes of Jenny and Sharon yesterday but they were both unavailable for comment.

Bale was arrested just hours after he attended the first European screening of the new Batman blockbuster, The Dark Knight.
The actor joined co-stars Sir Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Aaron Eckhart at the Odeon West End cinema in Leicester Square.
The allegations are not the first controversy to surround the film which made record box office sales in its first weekend in the United States.
In January, 28-year-old Heath Ledger, who gave an Oscar-tipped performance as villain The Joker, died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.
Bale, a keen environmental activist and martial arts enthusiast, also starred in American Psycho and Batman Begins.
Bale was still a pupil at Bournemouth School when landed his breakthrough role in Steven Spielberg's 1987 blockbuster Empire of the Sun.
The star has issued a statement through his solicitor denying the allegations.
