Big majority don't believe in miracles
 |
| HOLY MOLARS: Carol Bull and Christine Price both believe they received a gold tooth from God after a prayer meeting |
SIXTY-THREE per cent of voters in an Echo web poll don't believe God performs miracles.
The poll was held following the claim that two women living in the same street had been given gold teeth as "gifts from God" after a home prayer meeting.

Nick - what kind of poll was this?
Was it based on the comments response tally or were people specifically asked to vote?
What surprises me is that more than a third of people do believe - in this context that God is a cosmic dentist.
As always these surveys mean little because they are so vague.
Define miracle.
Define God.
Would the results have been different I wonder if the question was "Do anomalous events sometimes happen which physics has not yet understood?"
My take on it is that there are no miracles in the sense that they are supernatural.
Everything is natural - meaning no magic, just a universe that may take us probably millions of years to fathom[bold]bold[/bold] . (See my comments below main story)
And I have to ask - when is there going to be a proper in-depth journalistic investigation of this case?
Isn't that what newspapers are for?

I went onto Yahoo's search engine and typed "gold teeth god miracle" and there are loads of stories like this one. So it's not a new idea, sorry miracle, its obviously been bandied around for years.
This was from one site:
"Why would God fill people's teeth with gold? Perhaps because He loves them and delights in blessing His children. Perhaps it is a sign and a wonder to expose the skepticism still in so many of us. Perhaps His glory and presence are drawing very near.
On Wednesday evening March 3rd, 1999 miracles began happening in people’s teeth. By Thursday evening, over 50 people were on the platform at Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship testifying to having received what appeared to be gold or bright silver fillings or crowns, which they believed had supernaturally appeared in their mouths after receiving prayer during the Intercession Conference. Many received one, two, three or more, and in some cases up to ten changed fillings! On the Saturday night of the conference, there were 198 on the platform saying that God had given them a dental miracle. By Sunday night, well over 300 people were testifying to this unusual sign. Testimonies, even now, are continuing to pour in."
Mass hypnosis and sheep like behaviour?

We must not grind ourselves into this, at the time it was a story that you could get your teeth into. Gold or White.
Perhaps a new NHS dentist had been opened by a defrocked man of the cloth.
lol lol lol

What sort of a hair brained poll is this?
Asking people who don't believe if they believe in God performing miracles?.. It's a fix, guv!
Perhaps the poll would be more realistic if they asked people who actually go to church whether or not they believed in miracles. At least then we'd have a clearer idea of where the church stood on this matter.

My wife and I went to a dentist in Dorchester the new one ” I want an extraction I said but no pain killers or needles just yank it out” You're certainly a very brave man," the dentist said. "Which tooth is it?" I turned to my wife and said, "Show him your tooth dear”.

Despite the poll results I can catergoricaly state that God has performed miracles for me. He has, variously, supplied extra food when we'd run out of money, provided new clothing, even actual cash.
If you don't believe in God, then why would He want to help you?
Instead pray to Him and believe and ask Him to prove himself to you.
Just say "Dear Heavenly Father, please forgive me for the wrongs that I have done! I'm sorry, and I want to receive You into my heart through the Love of Your Son, Jesus. Help me to love You and others so that I can be happy and make others happy. Teach me more about You from Your wonderful Book, the Bible. In the name of Jesus, Your Son, amen."
If you've said that prayer with sincerity and honesty, Jesus has come into your heart, because He's promised to do so! He said, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock, if anyone will open the door I will come in and have loving fellowship with them."--Revelation 3:20.
Or are you afraid?

That prayer simply doesnt work, as this morning I prayed that the church would cash in it's worldy goods and real estate for the billions of pounds that it's worth, and give that money to the poor and sick, and yet it appears not to have happened.

The 37% of people who believe God does work miracles, myself included, roughly coheres to the 33% of world adherents to Christianity.
Therefore I am sure that as the entire original article was looking at miracles from a Christian perspective, the results are justified.

In answer to Owl,The Lord is trying to be as good to us as possible!--He will give you whatever you want that's good for you, because He loves you. The Bible promises, "No good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly!" (Psa.84:11)
But sometimes, the Bible tells us, we have not because we ask not. (Jam.4:2)--So if you really need something, pray it in!--Pray for it! Just be careful what you ask the Lord to do, because He'll often take you literally! The Lord will take you exactly at your word and your faith!
The true story is told of a certain preacher who prayed, "Lord, give me a car, I need a car, I'm desperate for a car, Lord--any old car!" And that's exactly what he got, exactly what he asked for--a real clunker! He said, "Next time I prayed for a good car, and I got it!" God is very definite, so be definite with Him! He says, "Command ye Me!" (Isa.45:11) He'll give you what you ask for, and certainly what you have the faith for! That's the way the Lord blesses if you trust Him, if you please Him, if you follow Him, if you obey Him.
God will give you what you have faith for, and you should have faith for what you need. If the need is there, the answer must be there too, so just look around and pray it in!
