MERLEY residents sick of rubbish drivers are aiming to confine speeding to the bin with a bold new approach.
Speed notices will be stuck to wheelie bins in Rempstone Road to remind motorists of the 30mph limit.
Residents have joined forces with officers from the Broadstone and Merley Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) to trial the proactive measure after they raised concerns about vehicles speeding on the road.
Laura Bowden, who lives on the road with her family, said: "The layout of Rempstone Road means that some drivers travel in excess of the 30mph speed limit.
"Like many other residents along the road, I have a young family and I am very concerned that a speeding vehicle could seriously injure a child or elderly resident."
PC Suzie Corsie, of the Broadstone and Merley SNT, said fast drivers were causing fear and distress for the Merley residents.

She said: "I am confident signage on rubbish bins - which will be visible from the road twice a week - will remind drivers that there is a 30mph speed limit in force in the area."
Safer Neighbourhood officers will also be working with the Dorset Safety Camera Partnership to carry out speed checks in the area.
A resident of Rempstone Road organised for the notices to be produced by local business Stripes at no cost to residents.
