Street Party in Stewart Road

This photograph of youngsters enjoying a street party was sent in by Mr S Sweatland. The Party was in Stewart Road, Charminster, and Mr Sweatland is standing by his bicycle. There is no date given, but it is believed that the party was held in celebration of the ending of the Second World War.
Alderney Water Works 1951

Peter Reeks sent in this photograph taken outside Alderney Water Works in 1951. The water works was built by Peter's father, Frank, as a sub-contractor to Rice and Son, Southampton. He says the roof and floors were of concrete beams lifted in to place by Brixley crane operators. Peter is second from the right and his late father is third from the right. They were taken on as bricklayer improvers, and whilst working there Peter received his two years National Service call-up.

This postcard depicting Alum Chine in the 1920s was sent in by David Peverelle.. The Postcard in date July 9th 1928.
Girls Training Corps 1944

Ronald Horlock sent in this photograph of the Poole Girls Training Corps that he believes was taken in the grounds of Henry Harbin School, Wimborne Road in 1944. Ronald's late wife Ellen, née Rowswell is in the centre of the middle row.
Blackwater Ferry

This postcard of the Blackwater Ferry near Christchurch was bought from a vendor in the local street market at St Tropez, by Stan Perry, when he was on holiday there recently. In the late 1800s the ferry was the only crossing point for some distance from Hurn to Holdenhurst and Bournemouth. The cottage was situated under the road bridge just past the Cooper Dean roundabout. The road goes through where the property used to be. It became dilapidated, and was later destroyed by fire circa 1920.
Bournemouth Sqaure

Eric Carter sent in this photograph of Bournemouth Square looking 'at its best with plenty of holiday makers on the move and not much traffic'. He says the photograph was taken in pre- 'Hogarth's' beer street days. There is an old Advance Laundry van in the foreground, and the laundry premises itself, which was in Alma Road, are long-since gone.
Raggett Motors Ltd

Mrs Gwen Raggett brought in this photograph, which was taken in the early 1970s. The view is facing up The Avenue towards The Triangle in Bournemouth. Her father-in-law Bill Raggett owned Raggett Motors Ltd. The Library now occupies the site up to the corner at the top of the road, and the MSCP Avenue Road car park was built opposite.
Happy Days in Boscombe Gardens

Mrs Elsie Ball brought in this photograph which was taken in Boscombe Gardens in 1952. She says they were the happiest days of her life and is pictured with her three lovely daughters, Carole (7), Christine (5), and little Sue (3). Sadly Chris died 15 years ago from MS, and her darling Sue died from cancer 6 years ago. Elsie has six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She now lives in Parkstone where she is near her eldest daughter Carole.
Heatherlands School Football Team 1949

These young lads played for the Heatherlands Junior School Football Team in 1949. The photograph was sent in by Graham Reason, and he gives the following names.
