ROVERS WAIT ON JO
Jo Kuffour
Jo Kuffour

TRANSFER-listed striker Jo Kuffour is poised for a move away from Dean Court - although any deal could be delayed as Cherries search for a replacement.

Bristol Rovers coach Paul Trollope yesterday revealed that his club had tabled a bid, believed to be in the region of £60,000, for the former Arsenal trainee, who handed in a transfer request last Friday.

But despite Trollope stating earlier this week that he hoped to strengthen his squad in time for tomorrow's League One clash against Hereford United, Cherries co-owners Paul Baker and Alastair Saverimutto have indicated Rovers may be forced to wait.

Asked whether Kuffour's imminent exit would be completed before Cherries face Exeter City tomorrow, Saverimutto said: "It's unlikely. We're still in talks with Bristol Rovers. It's unlikely to be done before the weekend.

"At the moment it's an intensive time, not least because there is only a week left in the transfer window and there is interest for Jo."

Baker told the Echo earlier this week that Cherries would not want Kuffour to leave the club until a replacement had been brought in.

And Saverimutto revealed that he was working hard, alongside manager Kevin Bond, to bring new players to the Dorset club.

"Kevin and I are very, very busy on that front, but it remains very, very tough in the market place," he said.

"Since the Football League share came back we've been pressed against the clock. We hope to bring our targets in."

Whatever the outcome of Kuffour's on-off move, his chances of being in action this weekend appear to be slim.

The striker, who was Cherries' top scorer last season, has not trained since Tuesday as he is suffering from flu.

Meanwhile, one player linked with a move to Dean Court in the past 24 hours is former Cherries frontman Alan Connell.

It is believed Connell, who is currently on Brentford's books, is in line to bolster Bond's attacking resources.

  • As predicted in Tuesday's Daily Echo, Cherries have signed Charlton Athletic winger Scott Wagstaff on a month's loan.

The 18-year-old made two appearances in the Championship last season and could make his Cherries debut against Exeter tomorrow.

Flu my #@%&, funny how in the week he's on the transfer list his health is in doubt, doesn't that mean he'll fail the medical and will have to stay, I doubt that, sorry Jo you will have to wait until we can replace you, not long now before you join Rovers relegation campaign, I can't wait for you to leave I somehow think our luck will change lol.

Time and Time again you see this is football.......JK covniently caught the flu to keep out of the game so as no injury worry before his move.......discrace.
....how often do we see this at international level where England players "pick up a knock" for a friendly on a wednesday night and come saturday they are in the starting line up for there club

Lies Lies Lies! I will drive down to Bournemouth with some Lemsip and then happily drive him to Bristol.

I'm not fickle or "sour grapes" but this is clearly a club/player/agent flu cover up!

Do the right thing and go and get Matt Tubbbs from Sailsbury!

"In the meantime, Jo has absolutely assured me that he is 100 per cent committed to the club and, if I didn't think that was the case, I wouldn't play him. We are also totally committed to him.

"His performance at Aldershot emphasised that and nothing will change on the commitment front from either side until somebody makes an offer that takes him away from us."

The club are not stupid. Even if he is fit, the crowd would murder him.Being on the list means generally he will not try.If he is going get someone in now-by the way 60 thou-they can get more

I think Jo needs to take a reality check! He has more clubs than Tiger Woods, all of whom are struggling ones, he never scores more than 10-12 goals a season, hardly sets the world alight at any of them and always wants to move on to play at a higher level. No disrespect to Bristol Rovers, but they will not get promoted and will more likely be scrapping in the bottom half, will he then want another club when it doesn't work there. Maybe his agent inflates his ego too much. Good riddance, get him off the wage bill and hopefully we can bring in someone better, for less.

Spot on reading between the lines either He doesnt want to play for us while this is going on, Bond thinks he wont give 100% or he genuinly has the Flu but I dont suppose having the Flu stopped him talking to Bristol R. Anyway I thought he wanted to move nearer to London Geography couldnt have been his best subject at School

Funny how Cummings had a bout of 'flu' when he put himself on the transfer list too!

To be fair, Jo Kuffour really isn't that great a player or goalscorer. I don't think its just bad luck that every team he's played for has been relegated. Lets take the money and run. There are players out there available that could do a far better job for us than Jo has. How many goals has he scored this season?? If he's not committed to the club then its time he packed his bags and trotted off.
Posted by: macca02, Farpoint on 12:22pm Fri 22 Aug 08
I have to agree with all who say let him go and the whole flu nonsense, lets replace him asap get him off our books and watch Rovers drop to the foot of league one, as said it's no coincidence that all the clubs he's been to have been relegated even the Rovers manager says it's going to be a struggle, good luck Jo, we'll see you jump ship to another club next season.

Scored more league goals last season than Pitman and Bradbury put together ?

Thats saying a lot. Bradbury played at right back and Pitman would struggle finishing a sentance let alone hit the back of the net.

I actually think Kuffour is a classy player, however if he believes he will contribute 100% to a game when clearly he is on his way elsewhere, then he is a fool.
Lets face it i expect Bond is the one who has "given him a dose of the flu" to stop him playing the last match and quite rightly so. Bond can give the opportunity to someone who does want to play for AFCB whether or not they do well this season.

So Who do we bring in?? I would go for Richard Gillespie from Bash, Leon knight,Possibly Bruce Dyer but best days are maybe behind him. and what would the chances of Mick letting us have Sam Vokes on loan till xmas??
Posted by: Chubbs, Bmth on 1:26pm Fri 22 Aug 08
Connell and Sappleton could be a good partnership in the making!

At the end of the day Kuffour is never going to be a 20 goal a season man plus he has never seemed to be strike a partnership with anyone.

    Pitmann was on the wing!!!

    Bradbury played at right back

because of his poor goal scoring in the position he was signed to play !!

Fair comment, but were not talking about Bradbury were discussing Kuffour, as mentioned he's not a 20 goal a season striker, he's lazy, I wouldn't call him natural finisher either and he's perhaps at best a slightly better than average league 2 striker.

The truth is they have no idea of whom they are going to get in. Bet they sign a defender, because Bond will tell all and sundry we are short of numbers-just wait and see!

Always thought that jo would have been netter on the wing. One thing is sure, he could play as the lone striker in Bond's 4-5-1 formation. He needs someone to feed off.

About the flu. Well he wouldn't be the first person to pull a sickie would he?

Good luck to the next club he relegates!

One of the worst sides eh - six against hereford, all top class goals, with Joe playing we should score goals for fun, oh yeah, how did bournemouth do on Saturday---I wont lower myself to belittle you, as I would dearly like to see Bmth do well, If you show the same kind of spirit as last season you should be safe, and who knows, you may well get promotion, I do hope so, but remember, this is one tough division to get out of, pretty football wont be enough,
