Tough test for Bye's troops

NEW Milton travel to Western Premier Division high-flyers Melksham in the FA Vase (3pm) hoping to put Saturday's 4-0 thumping at the hands of VT FC firmly behind them.

Andy Bye's men are now on the back of two successive Premier Division defeats - but the Linnets boss believes his side's mini slump could spark a positive response in Wiltshire tomorrow.

Bye said: "I think the key will be to get there and get straight into the game quickly.

"I think it's one of the tougher draws we could have got, but you can't pick and choose who you play. Looking at their league and where they are, I think we're at similar standards so I think it will be like playing a decent side from our league."

Melksham are currently second in the Western top-flight, but crashed to a 5-0 defeat against runaway leaders Bristol Manor Farm on Saturday.

Kishan Chengadu is unavailable tomorrow, while Luke Walker (foot) is still sidelined. Rob Woolner returns to the squad after missing Saturday's reverse against VT.

New Milton Town: (from) Anderson, Wood, Pidgley, Clarke, Grace, Burt, Byers, Allen, Woolner, Holland, Kenna, Coleman, Ewen, Cox, Sampays, Clifton-Moore.

MAGPIES HEAD NORTH

WIMBORNE Town visit fellow Wessex League outfit Shaftesbury in the Vase (3pm).

With Shaftesbury struggling at the wrong end of Wessex Division One, Christer Warren's in-form Magpies will be aiming for a safe passage through to the second round.

Warren, who has missed a number of matches this season due to a period of leave, insists all is well at Cuthbury. He said: "Everyone knows what's going on in-house and that's how it's going to stay.

"It's working okay at the minute."

Wimborne Town: (from) Walker-Harris, Arnold, Phillipson-Masters, Warren, Roast, Percival, Whitcher, Stokoe, Town, Joyce, Gibbons, P Smith, Jones, Cann, James, Hall.

CHANCE TO CLOSE UP

POOLE Town have the opportunity to open up a gap at the top of the Wessex Premier Division when they host sixth-placed Romsey at Tatnam tomorrow (3pm).

Title rivals VT FC and Wimborne Town are both in Vase action.

Winger James Bailey-Pearce is unavailable and Aaron Skelton is injured.

Poole Town: (from) Harvell, Poore, Whitley, White, Dibba, Browne, Hubbard, Sturgess, Richardson, Gill, Smith, Brown, Austin, Swann, Phillips.

  • Poppies travel to Alton in the Wessex Premier Division tomorrow (3pm) looking to claw some points from somewhere after Saturday's 4-1 home defeat against Cowes Sports, while Ringwood Town visit Farnborough North End in Wessex One.

Verwood Town face Holt United in the Dorset Senior Cup.
