Blow for Bash
 |
| BOSS: Steve Riley |
BASHLEY'S hopes for a BGB Premier League play-off spot were dealt a blow as Steve Riley's men crashed to a 3-0 defeat at home to Corby Town.
The problems started early on for Riley's men as keeper David Elm was forced to make three routine saves with the visitors wasting no time in getting on the front foot.
They made the breakthrough 14 minutes into the game, making the most of an error from Elm.
His poor kick was picked up by Corby in the midfield and Steven Towers advanced on goal before unleashing a vicious left-foot shot from 25 yards, which left Elm rooted to the spot as it flew into the net.
Having come close to levelling the match on more than one occasion before the break, Bash found themselves with an impossible task in the space of three second-half minutes.
One-time Cherries trialist Stephen Diggin beat Pete Castle to a long ball before slotting past Elm for an all-too-simple goal in the 59th minute.
Richard Gillespie then came close to pulling a goal back before Diggin did the damage again.
Proving his first effort was no fluke, the impressive forward produced an even better strike second time round to give his side a 3-0 lead.
Having evaded Chris Knowles in midfield on the counter attack, Diggin was left one on one with Gazzard. Jinking one way then the next, he weaved past the Bash captain before firing home from 15 yards.
Bashley: Elm, Gazzard (Rose, 62), Castle, Parnell, Ferrett, Rowe, Finlay (Fairbrother, 62), Knowles (Eastham, 75), Keeler, Gillespie, Tarr. Unused subs: Hollick, Fisher.
