Royals’ boss looks for more

BLANDFORD United boss Jamie Murray is refusing to get too carried away with his side's impressive form.

The Royals beat Bridport 3-1 at Park Road last Saturday to go three games unbeaten in the Dorset Premier League.

Despite going behind to Dan Jones's opener for the Bees after 51 minutes, United battled back courtesy of a Jamie Haylock hat-trick.

The striker turned the match on its head within the space of three minutes, scoring on 66 and 69.

He then completed his treble with a penalty four minutes from time.

But Murray was more concerned with the overall team display than Haylock's personal efforts, and he claims there is still room for improvement.

He said: "It's not about individual performances - it's the team that matters.

"I think we deserved to win but we didn't perform as well as I would have liked us to.

"We went 1-0 down which was a bit disappointing but we showed a bit of gumption to come back.

"The only problem was we got ourselves 3-1 in front and let them back into the game again.

"But still, any win is a good one at the moment."

With a tough trip to Westland Sports on the horizon next week, Murray hopes his side are yet to reach their peak.

He added: "I'd like to think there is more to come from the boys and I don't think we have reached the best of our ability yet.

"They can never stop trying to improve and if they do this, I'm sure there will be more."

Elsewhere, Hamworthy United and Cobham Sports both picked up only their second points of the season.

The Hammers held Poole Borough 1-1 at the County Ground.

Gary Williams gave the home side a half-time advantage but Ross Edwards hit back for Hornets on the hour mark.

Meanwhile, Cobham claimed a 2-2 draw at home to DPL newcomers Chickerell United.

Sturminster Newton picked up their first win in three matches after beating Swanage Town and Herston 2-1 at Barnetts Field.

Dan Carter opened the scoring for the hosts after 23 minutes but Jamie Holland levelled matters just before the break.

Paul Thorpe netted the winner 14 minutes from time as Newton leapfrogged Swanage into eighth in the table.

Shaun Brian grabbed a 79th minute equaliser as Hamworthy Recreation held leaders Wincanton Town to a 1-1 draw in Somerset.

Brad Peters opened the scoring for Town but Rec's reply kept them in touch with the title chasers.

In the day's other game, Cranborne shared a 1-1 draw with Westland at Penny's Lane.

Dan Call struck for Sports after 80 minutes but Oli Hepworth snatched an equaliser at the death to salvage the Cranes a point.
