NEW DEAL REVEALED
Alastair Saverimutto
Alastair Saverimutto

ALASTAIR Saverimutto hailed Cherries' new deal with JD Sports as the "biggest sponsorship package" in the club's history.

The chief executive was speaking at today's press conference, where Cherries launched their new home strip and unveiled a three-year contract with JD Sports as the club's kit manufacturers and sponsors.

The arrangement will see JD's youth fashion brand, Carbrini Sportswear, featured on all home, away and replica shirts and shorts.

"This is a great occasion for AFC Bournemouth," said Saverimutto, who refused to go into detail on the financial terms of the deal.

"We saw an absolutely perfect brand fit and muscle in the market place to discuss opportunities with JD Sports and essentially Barry (Bown, JD Sports chief executive) joined our vision and came on board.

"This partnership is one of significance and will be a real meaningful partnership for the club.

"No question, it's the biggest in the club's history on both fronts - brand and financial terms."

Asked whether more deals were in the pipeline, Saverimutto said: "We are going to be a club based on delivery and we have got a strategic plan now to secure and execute partnerships going forward.

"JD Sports are our main partner and shirt deal and that has set a precedent. However, in the weeks to come, we will be announcing many new exciting opportunities at Bournemouth."

Bown, who described the partnership as a "really interesting challenge" for his company, said: "Having met Alastair and the enthusiasm which is coming from the club, we feel it's a massive opportunity for us to partner Bournemouth and I can see it moving to bigger and better things.

"We're delighted to be part of the opportunity and really feel we can move forward together.

"We're not just going to be shirt sponsor and provider of kit. We want to be involved in lots of other areas like developing products for the club shop."

Cherries chairman Jeff Mostyn said JD's involvement demonstrated a "great show of faith" in the club moving forward to bigger and better things.

As part of the deal, AFC Bournemouth merchandise is likely to be featured in JD's local stores in Boscombe and Castle Point, and the company will have "exclusive supply" to the club shop, according to Saverimutto.

The Cherries chief executive added that the club shop is set to be rebranded as "The Megastore", which will be controlled in-house by the Sport-6 team.

Supporters have been assured that they will get the opportunity to purchase the new kit, which is to be worn in the pre-season friendly against Portsmouth tonight, prior to the start of the League Two campaign.

I guess those shirts will cost around an average of 40 quid, so the manufacturere could hope for 2,000? sales in 3 years, that is 80,000 odd grand. I just hope this money is in excess of what will be used to buy the club rather than what will be used to purchase it. Shame they didn't use stripes though, may have sold many more than this very un-original design.

For goodness sake-wake up you load of moaning minnies, if nothing else it gives us money and also the press coverage. The more we are in the public eye the more easier it will be to get the message across to the community that the club was safe after all. There are some people who appear on here hacking the club to bits-grow up and get behind the club!

Wow- a first for AFCB! 2 shirt manufacturers.... or have I missed something?

Didn't JM announce a week or so ago that he'd signed a contract with JOMA to provide your new kit? What has happened to this deal?

Come on give it a chance will you, this could be a very good deal for the club and what's so original about stripes anyway? The kit didn't look half bad last night and it looks like they are ready to go which makes a change in itself, so come on why the moan?

Probably will end up in court, the deal wasn't with the new owners so we will see won't we.

Yep very true and it could well mean Cherries shirts in shops up and down the country now that will be a first not to mention in ad campaigns, this for once is a good brand for the club, I wish people would see the potential but they seem more worried about the shirt, which I thought looked good for a change.

Wow, the shop is going to be called "the Megastore", never heard of that name before. Still now we have sorted the big issue perhaps we can get on with the more minor matters like the playing side of the club!!!

I'm confused now though it doesn't take much! If the JOMA deal wasn't with the new owners but the JD Sports deal is then how does that work? They are the PROPOSED new owners of AFCB so surely any deal done at present would be under the same arrangement as the JOMA deal? It would have gone through the administrator but it would have been signed with JM's consortium so what has changed? Were AS and PB his consortium 2 weeks ago when he announced the JOMA deal or was it still with Alan Pither?

If as you say it was with the old owners(?) they will be defunct and therefore how could it end up in court as there wouldn't be the old owners of AFCB to sue, would there? I think I've finally lost the plot......
