HARRY: GIVE KEVIN THE TOOLS
|
| BACKING: Redknapp |
HARRY Redknapp insists Kevin Bond is the man to revive Cherries' fortunes and has urged the club's new owners: "Give him the tools and he will do the job."
Redknapp, the most successful manager in Cherries' history, saw his Portsmouth charges record a 4-1 pre-season friendly victory at Dean Court last night.
A double from Pompey's record £11m signing Peter Crouch was sandwiched between goals from Sulley Muntari and former Cherries loan star Jermain Defoe, with Brett Pitman replying.
Dorset-based Redknapp said: "I thought Bournemouth worked hard and caused us a few problems. Brett Pitman was lively. He worked hard and was full of energy.
"But Kevin's got it all on again and he needs some players. That's the problem for him.
"He's got a massive job on his hands, the most difficult job. What he did during the second half of last season was a miracle.
"I watched a few games towards the end of the season and they were brilliant. I saw them play Tranmere and they absolutely slaughtered them. Tranmere were full of giants and Bournemouth full of kids and they were fantastic.
"Kevin got the absolute maximum out of them but what he needs now is a bit of help and some players.
"Hopefully, the new people will come in and take the club forward. We also need the Football League not to be too harsh on the club."
Redknapp said he was "delighted" to see the administration saga coming to an end and added: "The club was never going to go out of business anyway. There are a few people who wouldn't let that happen."
Asked by the Daily Echo whether he was one of those people, Redknapp replied: "For sure. When I spoke to Jeff (Mostyn) three months ago, I told him that if he could get someone else then great. But I also said that if it came to the crunch, I was always there."
Bond again ran the rule over a number of trialists with Peterborough goalkeeper Shwan Jalal and Stoke City pair Ryan Shotton and Richie Le Paet catching the eye.
The Cherries boss said: "I was really pleased with how we did overall but disappointed with the goals we gave away. I thought we started the second half sloppily and, as a result of that, were 3-0 down. All of a sudden, you think you're going to be on the end of a hiding and that's not a nice feeling.
"They created their own chances but I thought the goals they scored were of our making. There was no reason why we needed to gift them and we conceded through lack of concentration and not doing the right things. On the plus side, I thought we created some problems for them and acquitted ourselves really well."

Nice one `arry` Back from 2 weeks hols and we appear to be in a worse mess now then when i went ? We put the effort in but of course pompey were miles ahead of us in every department, we need players urgently and not Chester Citys left overs that Baker has to take as part of releasing his loan notes ? Could someone explain how Mostyn can decide Cummings future ? surely its Krasners duty not Jeffs ? and have JD Sports signed a agreement with a company in ADMINISTRATION ? I cannot understand if they have because if the Football League refuse these Blaggers the Golden share because they have no finances and hope to use the fans / commercial income as their working capital , then what happens. No Golden Share no agreement bit like Joma ? or is Jeff going to be a 3rd time lucky man ?

KB may have worked marvels for 7 games last season but for the other 39 he was poor and he was for the 30 odd games he had the previous season.
Enough said?

I genuinely like Harry and wish him well as Manager of Pompey, I've even stopped the traditional Cherries supporter's hatred of Portsmouth FC since he has been in charge there. However, this is now about the sixth time he has gone on record as saying he would not let our club go to the wall, yet appears to have done very little to actually ensure this is the case - talk is cheap!
I guess there may come a time when we find out that the money which kept us afloat over the last few months was actually HR's, not JM's (not suggesting I know anything, just that perhaps this is the only way his comments would be more than simply hot air). Until that time if it ever arrives, OHEC, please stop printing his empty rhetoric about our club!

Let's move on, give the manager and the new owners a chance to prove themselves. There has been enough negative comment over the past weeks.

Oh and if you have had this hols that you say you have why are you still feeling so down on the club?

Sorry to disappoint you G McMahon but i am not all seeing eye ? Lets not fall out again and lets talk about AFCB and not personal attacks. My major concern like yours is the future of AFCB and the finances needed to take the club forward. Its time for everyone to look to the future and ask have these present so called owners got the cash needed or are they going to use the income of the fans and the Football League and then run out of money ? Its a concern and everyone should just not believe what certain people say , lets see what Krasner says , i do believe him .

Shame as KB certainly talked as if he had learnt alot from the mistakes he made last year, the main one being the loan player/youth player arguement. Got a round of applause from the fans their and deservedly so. Don't forget last season was his first year being a first team manager.

Considering the Board he had behind him he worked miricles which he will have to do this season as well. No its only fair to give him at least a chance. Even the new board if and when they actually get it are showing signs of a big improvement on last season by
1. the new shirt contract
2. Getting some trust back from the fans by giving Mostyn a non exec role thus removing in reality the biggest obstaclre to progress so Yes lets give em a chance cant do any worse.
Bond may indeed turn out to be a decent Manager

I still want to see these guys put their money where their mouths are but I have a better feeling after yesterdays news than before. Is it not tomorrow the paperwork will be with the league? we should know very soon if this is more than hot air I really do hope it is as their was an air of optimism at the match last night and a great atmosphere which would be great for the season ahead.

We have to remember that he was bad for the best part of two seasons. I hope he has learned from his mistakes and those last 7 games were the start of something good, but it was a long time coming and we can not afford another start to the next season like last season or Bond's first 7 games the previous season where we lost 7 out of 7

The JD sports deal is a massive step in the right direction, as that kinda of sponsor wouldnt look out of place on a championship/premier
ship team as its a national brand.
I think this Alaistair Savirmuttio (sic) contacts and knowledge could be a great asset to this club to help us finally be run like a sound business.

Whether you sit on the side of the fence that thought that only happened because the team was forced upon KB, it still doesnt take away the fact that KB would of learnt a great deal from that rn of form and from how he has been talking this season, he has learnt from the mistakes made. Time to forget about the first 6 months and concetrate on the final 4 months and now what could be a good season on the pitch.
Lets get behind the team!!

Sorry John Coombes but in my opinion Mr Krasner has not told any lies and i await his verdict on the PROPOSED new ownership of AFCB.
You question not knowing about the actual finances of the PROPOSED new owners , well please check Companies House or Chech Sure . Sport-6 Reg No is 05459971 and UK Sameday Ltd is Reg No 03635028. After reading these companies transactions which are legal it demostrates that you will have a better credit record (hopefully ) Ok you will tell me that they may have other monies elsewhere so please check further and ask questions at Chester City, I did.
Sadly it appears that they tried a similar tactic at Chester but failed. The other alarm bells ringing for me is the fact that Mr Mostyn said he had only known Mr Baker for TWO WEEKS. Well John would you join forces with a STRANGER ? I hate bad news but someone must put the other side of the case against and then hopefully the fans can decide and watch what happens or challenge these people to show us THEIR MONEY.
Stop being so eternally pessimistic. Nobody would have backed most of today's really successful businessmen at some stage in their careers. Have you read Richard Branson's autobiography? Let's judge these guys by their future performance.

Sadly it appears that they tried a similar tactic at Chester but failed. The other alarm bells ringing for me is the fact that Mr Mostyn said he had only known Mr Baker for TWO WEEKS.
mike we have been through all this before, I have posted the report from the Chester Chairman on this site, but you have to admit the deal brokered with JD sports is a bigger brand than we have had at the club in the time I have been going out there and that's over 30 years, so I am saying they may not have the best track record and yes we need to be cautious but they have delivered which is something we have not seen from anyone else, I am waiting to hear the news from the league and I think after what has happened it is going to be good news for once, ok they may not be multi millionaires but we were never likely to get a magic investor were we, so if these men can bring this kind of deal to the club and they are going to run it as it should be run then we may just have a chance. I am not saying follow them blindly far from it but I am more prepared after yesterdays news to think they may just have a clue in what they are doing.

READ THIS COMMENT-
This is regarding any people who made comments on the Warren Cummings Story:
Warren is a legend and has proved to be a loyal servent for this club so dusent need to prove to anyone his commitment to our club, hes our longest serving player and is full of ability so derserves to be rewarded with resonable contract he wasnt being greedy he just wants the same as agreed and like everyone hes has to live and being 27 he needs money to live and league 2 wages arnt enough he has no choice but to find somewhere else, dont forget league 2 is not part time like non league, its full time and with training and matches taking most of week he cant just get another job,i really want him to stay. I only sed last week cummings is our remaining player in that era after the departures of our other legends in the past year, hes a quality player, one of our best, hes championship standard and hes stayed with us all this time already. What people have got to understand many of our players are young and are still living at home so there wages are enough, our other players havent been there as long as warren, so why would it harm team spirit and be unfair on other players, hes Mr Bournemouth.
I also believe theres more to this than the echo knows. I think hes had a chat with the other lads what signed new contracts and i think theres was similiar to his current deal or possibily more, because in desperation we had to sign up our out of contract players or risk not having no players for new season so we offered more than we would normally or should be paying therefore forcing wages close or more than cummings, so people get of cummings back and think about what your saying before slamming our Cherries Legend, im shocked at his treatment

I would like to have a multi-millionaire as onwer, a squad of 20, won the ground etc etc
However, given what has happened over the last week or so, I am pleased with progress.
Kit deal is impressive, we have a reasoanble nucleus of the team and some time to get a few more in.
At least McQuoid and Pitman look impressive so will be an addition to last year's squad. If Brett get his confidence up, he will be dangerous. Anderton looks fit and raring to go too.
Hollands' knee injury is much better so hopefully will be back very soon.
As for Warren, love him to stay but I dont think he has recaptured the form of old yet.
No-one is pretending the finances are going to be easy but there is some scope for encouragement out there.

Noel was spot on.
As for Redknapp's words of "support" he would say that wouldn't he because he dumped Bond on us in the first place. If he was such a good coach why didn't he take him to Pompey second time round. Just ask the Saints fans.
With regards to the new Mostyn's friends of course we all have an open mind because we love our club. But Mostyn (when is a share not a share.. I'll safeguard my money stuff the supporters) talked the talk and we all had faith in him.
Time will tell. All I care about at the moment is being in the Football League this time next year.
Chairman, Managers and players come and go but we fans are in it for life and for future generations regardless of whether there is snow on the pitch.

Give him the tools and he will do the job
Probably true for any manager in League2, the AFCB manager needs to do the job with the tools bought at the car boot sale.

I'd have to agree with G McMahon about being cautious regarding the PROPOSED new owners. AS said the new shirt deal is the biggest in AFCB's history both in brand and financial terms but hasn't released any details. Whilst I agree that getting JD Sports as sponsors is a hugh step in the right direction and better than Focal Point how can you clarify the financial side of the deal if you don't have the value? As I'm not an AFCB supporter forgive me if this is wrong but it is only an example; If Focal Point paid £80,000 to sponsor AFCB for 2 years and JD Sports paid £100,000 to sponsor AFCB for 3 years which is more beneficial financially to the club? Yes, AS can say it's the biggest deal in AFCB's history but do AFCB get as much money year on year?
More importantly for your club, tomorrow is the day that JM is supposed to have all the additional paperwork at the FL so they can assess the admin exit proposal. Strangely, I would have thought that the club would have wanted to continue this improved feel good factor by assuring fans that this had been done, yet nothing. No statement or press conference, is something lined up for tomorrow?
At least you will have a better idea of where you are tomorrow.

When will we have details of this so called "Fantastic" kit deal, at what cost?, could a sweetner have been to let them have the club shop, taking everything out of house. They have no money the pot is dry, do a companies search and you will see this is not a brave new dawn, all we are seeing is the sell off of commercial rights to fund the takeover, I've heard all these words time and time again, have to agree with Mike Clegg, too many people have forgotten the past masters of spin we've had in charge, nothing indicates this lot are any different. The use of the "Seven figure investment" is a prime example, well what is this figure, is it simply the £1.2 million that will disappear into the melting pot of administration and JM's charges.
They were found wanting in the Chester takeover and I fear we are in for further rough times.
Give us figures not these sugary phrases and perverbial spin

In answer to J.W-Living i am sorry if you think i am negative but someone as to put the other point of view across and maybe its not what fans want to here but the points are very accurate and you can check for yourself. Please check and then like me and others you will maybe be more cautious. It would be great if these Blaggers had real money but we have not seen it and maybe they have blagged JD Sports because how can POTENTIAL owners sign contracts. What if the Football League refused them the Golden Share ? Remember JOMA , Jeff made a major announcement saying that they were the kit supplier. I think we are in for more ups and downs don`t you.
