| My Bloody Valentine |
THE slavering reviews were in the bag long before the reformed lords of shoegazing My Bloody Valentine ended their five-night run at the Roundhouse - their first live dates in 16 years - on Monday.
Perhaps even more excitingly, the band - still to play Manchester on Saturday and Sunday, and Glasgow on Wednesday and Thursday - have hinted that a new album could see the light of day.
Notoriously press-shy and perfectionist to the point of never being able to complete anything to his satisfaction, MBV lynchpin Kevin Shields spoke to Xfm.co.uk about the reunion.
"We were always gonna do it so we just did," he said. "We would've ideally done a record first and then done some gigs, but we're not in an ideal world."
True, but it might be a hell of a lot better for a hell of a lot of people if My Bloody Valentine ever got around to following up 1991's Loveless album for which they picked up a Classic Album gong at the recent Mojo Honours List.
Word is the record was partially recorded but never completed after MBV spent more than £500,000 and their new label, Island, withdrew support.
Asked if it would come out, Shields added: "Whenever I get the chance to finish it. It was pretty much three quarters made in the '90s. We've got no label support so everything will be finished pretty much independently."
Somewhat enigmatically, drummer Colm O'Ciosoig also chipped in: "It's a very real possibility. There's some good stuff. Yeah, it's just one of those things that had to be that way I guess."
