Sigur Ros - Meo Suo I Eyrum Vio Spilum Endalaust *****
Iceland's finest
Iceland's finest

After the massive success of Heima following the adoption of Hoppipolla as the international hymn of euphoria (and the theme to Planet Earth), you might have thought Sigur Ros would go large to follow it up. Instead, Meo... (which translates as With A Buzz In Our Ears We Play Endlessly) adops a far looser approach.

Although more than 90 musicians appear on Ara Batur, it was recorded in one take and is among the band's most engaging, all-embracing works.

Where Sigur Ros' beauty lay in their icy detachment, there are moments here that sound like sonic arms around the shoulder; while Inni Mer Syngur Vitleysingur (Within Me A Lunatic Sings) gifts the world a magnificent anthem of monumental proportions.
