The Music - Strength in Numnbers ****
 |
| A scallydelic rogue rock ding dong |
Having threatened much with their debut Take The Long Road and Walk It in 2001, the follow-up (Welcome to the North) was a bit of a damp squib. Singer Robert Harvey's lengthy dalliance with drink and drug addiction didn't bode well for their third album, but the successful rehab has done him the power of good, it seems.
Strength In Numbers could well be the natural successor to the Roses' Second Coming with its blistering blend of Zep guitars, Reni drum magic, supersonic harmonies and lyrical wit and grit. The title track packs a punch like a steel press, while The Leftside comes on harder than the Cardiff City Soul Crew in a strop and Inconceivable Odds could bring a man to his knees.
It's as if The Twang never happened. Phew!
