The Beep Seals - Things That Roar (Heron Recordings) ****
AH, THIS is the stuff after just two impossible to find 7" singles, Manchester's herbal infusers The Beep Seals have got it together to make a whole album - and it's a mighty fine one.
from the Seals' obvious devotion to the likes of Syd Barrett, The Zombies and Pavement has emerged an album of lazy Sunday afternoon highs and sighs.
The finger-snappin' stoner stomp of Such a Bloody Pain is offset by the whimsy of Chariot Song and the psyche-out electric guitar on I Dreamt A Metal Hat. Join Me On My Cloud is an invitation and a half, while the Byrdsian echoes of Use Your Other Head warrant a bigger budget next time.
Finally, the sunkissed harmonies of Tell Your Friends demand that you do.
