Albert Hammond Jr - Como Te Llama (Rough Trade) **
AS the world continues its lengthy wait for The Strokes' fourth album, Albert steams in with the follow up to his solo debut Yours To Keep. If the first record wasn't quite right, its follow up tries so hard to assimilate its obvious influences it wrings the life out of too much potential.
The Boss Americana wants to hold hands with Tom Petty, but settles for Clapton, whose weak stabs at cod-reggae are remembered about halfway through the limp instrumental Spooky Couch. Elsewhere you can detect a few moves borrowed from John Lennon (Sean plays piano on one track), Jack White and Neil Young. The closest to The Strokes' charmingly lackadaisical guitar stomp comes with You Won't Be Fooled By This (a-ha!) and Victory At Monterey lives up to its lively intro.
