The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (12) ****
ANYONE who has read Jean-Dominique Bauby's compelling story cannot fail to have been touched by the strength of human spirit it took to write. Destroyed by a catastrophic stroke and struck by locked-in syndrome' which paralyses his entire body except his left eye, the former editor of Elle magazine struggles with anger, circumstance, self-pity, desire, guilt and injustice to dictate his story.
What emerges is a vibrant, brutally honest account of the human condition that's laced with colour, humour, little joys and desperate tragedy.
An emotionally exhilarating film that fully derserved its Cannes and Bafta Awards. Unmissable.
