GOLDEN GIRL: Katie Melua plays Bournemouth during UK tour

KATIE Melua first found fame way back in the summer of 2003 as an 18-year-old singer-songwriter freshly discovered by Womble-in-Chief Mike Batt.

No one, least of all Katie herself, could have predicted the massive success the next few years would hold.

But as she prepares for her biggest ever UK tour this winter - including a concert at Bournemouth's International Centre on Monday, November 10 - she is a household name, has sold almost eight million albums and, since 2006, has been the best selling British female recording artist in the world.

She also has a raft of awards to her name and a huge international fan base. With tickets selling fast for her forthcoming shows the Georgian born British-based songstress says she's really looking forward to the new shows.

"I've always loved performing live, it is a perk of the job' although it really doesn't seem like work'. I will be travelling all around the world but, without wanting to sound cheesy, it is always great to come back home and play in Britain."

The Bournemouth concert follows up her hugely successful show at the BIC two years ago but what a lot of people don't remember is Katie's debut concert in Bournemouth at the Pavilion Theatre way back in March 2004.

The then 19-year-old rising star was supported by an unknown singer-songwriter called James Blunt.
